In the early 1900’s doctors began studying how what we ingest affects the bodies ph balance. (why does it matter? Keep reading..)

First a base principle, pH stands for. The term “pH” is short for potential of hydrogen.  Ph is measure on an scale that reflects the of the acidity or basic (alkalinity) of an solution.

All solutions have a ph level, animals, humans, plants, drinks, bacteria, yeast, parasites, food…  everything can thrive (or die) if that ph level is not kept in balance…. So back to the 1900’s when they began studying how what we ingested would impact the Ph of our bodies.  They learned that by simply changing a person’s diet, pH levels could be returned to normal and many health issues could be totally cleared up.

In order for our bodies to maintain a perfect living environment, the level we need to achieve is very close to 7. 4, just a little bit on the alkaline side of neutral. Because pH is a measurement of our body’s electrical balance that helps to regulate a variety of bodily functions, if our pH varies too much from the ideal level of 7.4, it becomes very difficult for enzymes to function properly, not to mention that cancer cells cannot thrive in an alkaline environment.

“Acidosis” is a term used when the body becomes too acidic from poor oxygen utilization and thereby decreases in levels of bicarbonate (HCO3). Substances called buffers keep the pH of the blood from varying over too wide a range. Because carbon dioxide is one of the primary waste products produced by the all living cells, bicarbonates, or alkaline compounds, are required when the cell exchanges oxygen and carbon dioxide. Without enough bicarbonate, the waste build up of carbon dioxide in the tissues would cause your body to suffocate and this would be a perfect breeding ground for anaerobic cancer cells. Symptoms of acidosis include tense muscles, headaches, fatigue, acne and joint pain. Acidosis can also exacerbate brittle bone disease and osteoporosis.

On the other hand, if the body becomes too alkaline, then usually unwanted calcium deposits begin to form and people begin to experience the likes of nerve and joint pain, insomnia, and early morning stiffness.
Becoming too alkaline, however, doesn’t happen too much anymore. Our foods have become extremely processed. We consume large amounts of sugar, dairy products, and more flesh then we ever did 50 years ago, which in turn, is creating an acid imbalance. And when we become too acidic, we are calling to us sickness, disease, depression, and cancer. Therefore, it’s imperative to consume the alkaline foods that will help to keep our bodies healthy and functioning correctly. Symptoms of alkalosis, which is the opposite of acidosos, when the pH level of the body becomes too alkaline, include a lack of drive, a spaced out or disoriented feeling, laziness and excessive feelings of being cold. Acidosis is more common than alkalosis due to the large amounts of acid-forming foods frequently eaten as part of a standard diet in the United States and other Western countries.

Water takes part in all processes in the body: synthesis, degradation of all substances, producing and utilizing energy, functioning of cells, tissues, organs and regulation of the body’s activity. What are the risks of being dehydrated?

•    1% dehydration leads to thirst.
•    2% dehydration causes feeling of anxiety, reduced appetite and capacity for work by 20%.
•    4% dehydration brings feeling of nausea, dizziness, emotional instability, fatigue.
•    6% dehydration leads to loss of coordination and coherence of speech.
•    10% dehydration causes regularization failure in addition to all above mentioned symptoms. Cells begin to die.
•    At 11% dehydration it’s not enough just to drink water. The chemical balance of the organism has undergone serious changes. In order to restore it you need professional medical care.
•    20% dehydration may lead to death.
